Hello world. The following was written 07/22/2026.
I flew a couple of days ago, literally. Our front air conditioner on our RV went out. We knew it was going out so had purchased a new one. It was delivered the day before it went out fully. Talk about great timing. The temperature was in the 100’s in the RV with the back air conditioner on and fans blowing the air forward to the front. The kitties and I spent the day back there to stay cool.
When Alex got off work at 5, we began to remove the old air conditioner with the aide of the ranges skid loader, with permission. Alex lowered down the cover for the air conditioner to me from the roof. I was standing in our doorway and I thought I had it. I had a hold on it, but it had me.
As soon as Alex let go the wind gusted and I was sucked out of the door into the air. I was flying for around 30 seconds before the air conditioner cover hit the ground next to the forks of the skid loader and I landed inside of it curled into a ball. All Alex could do was stare in horror as everything unfolded in slow motion for him as he watched from the roof.
I had forgotten that cover was bigger than I am. It was also heavier than I remembered. We had attached a small solar panel to it later on which added more weight and I had forgotten that. I scraped the back of my left knee on the metal door frame, drawing blood to the surface just under the skin. I jammed my right knee when I landed, as well as my elbow, hip and shoulder on that side. I actually hit my hip on the door frame as I was being pulled out into the air.
Despite the starting events we got the new air conditioner installed. I was climbing up and down the ladder and holding the lead lines for the coolers so they didn’t hit the solar panels or starlink. I am soar, bruised and scraped up a bit. Moving a bit slower too.
Alex was surprised I was willing to climb the ladder after falling. Especially since I am afraid of heights. It needed to be done and he needed help. I was the only one there who could help. We do what we need to do, when we need to.
This perspective of understanding of we do what we need to, when we need to came to the forefront for me. Fear, is a wall we all must face within ourselves. For myself, I have had to face my fears of heights many times to get things done. I have had to force myself to move and place one foot in front of the other and begin to climb that ladder. It didn’t matter that I was hurting.
The well being of our animal companions and our own lives were at stake if that air conditioning unit did not get replaced immediately. There was no one else there to hold the lead line and keep the air conditioner stable so it didn’t break solar panels and the other things on the roof of the RV. It needed to be done and I was the only other person there who could help.
It has been a couple of days since I flew out the door. The scrape on the back of my knee is almost healed. The blood receded from the surface and the area is slightly bruised, as is my hip, elbow and shoulder which actually popped out of joint and I had to pop it back in. I am double jointed so my body bends and does things unusual on it own at times. Like placing my feet flat together pointing while my legs are straight. Apparently ones body is not supposed to do that.
In retrospect I am realizing I sort of blacked out as everything was occurring. I could hear and feel what was happening as it happened, yet there was a detachment in the moments it was occurring. It was after I came to a stop I opened my eyes and realized I was inside of the air conditioning cover curled in a fetal position. Instinctively my body curled itself up without me consciously thinking about it. When I stood up I was shaking hard and my first thought was about whether I broke the stupid cover that just took me for a flight…
I can laugh about it now in hindsight. My mind and my body literally shut down communications so I was not registering fully what had just occurred to it physically. It was an in body, out of body experience so to speak because of that disconnection. It is also what made climbing that ladder and facing my fears possible in those moments. It is now in hindsight I am able to see this aspect through reviewing what was experienced. Seeing it as an observer now and not as the participant.
On this journey I am finding there have been many times I stepped forward and did what needed to be done in those moments whether I wanted to or not. I am also understanding what courage is or can be as simple as facing one’s Self and the fears hidden within them when, we do what we need to do, when we need to.
Blessings on thy journeys my brothers. Hugs and love. You are loved. I love you.
